The boy wiped away the blood on his cheek and shrugged his backpack onto his shoulder. He took two limp steps forward before pausing.
"Was it enough?" the boy asked.
The man shrugged. "I know I messed up..." he said, but he didn't finish. Couldn't finish?
The boy limped on, the man finally wise enough to know not to impede his decision. Maybe someday the boy would know whether that decision was good or bad, but until such time, he just limped away.
